FIFA Netted in Sexism Controversy Ahead of Women’s World Cup as Exclusive Daily Training Sessions Offered Only to Male Players

After female players were excluded from a pre-competition training camp for the tournament’s officials, FIFA found itself in a sexism controversy on the eve of the World Cup.

Clubs in Sydney were requested to send male players aged 15 plus’ to a series of World Cup match officials’ training sessions at Sydney’s Olympic Park in emails from FIFA’s Refereeing Division.

Until 20 August, the day of the World Cup final, the daily meetings for FIFA’s officiating delegation are scheduled to continue.

At least one Sydney-based club brought its women’s squad to the Olympic Park earlier this week to provide assistance, but according to Mail Sport, FIFA officials mostly disregarded the players, who finally left without being granted the chance to play.

According to a source who spoke to Mail Sport, “Only FIFA would ask for male-only players to help prepare referees for a women’s World Cup.”

“Our team lost, and they only started the matches with men or boys,” a fan said. The ladies were instructed to wait and serve as stand-ins. They lingered for two hours before leaving because they were tired of being ignored.

In the email to clubs, it is stated that “FIFA requires that male players who are 15 years of age and above and who have a good level of football skill be used for daily training activities,” but it does not explain why this seems to be discriminatory.

FIFA requested around 50 participants every day and paid each one about £25 in compensation for participating in the two-and-a-half-hour session.

JUST IN: EPL Releases 2025/26 Season Dates, Adjusts To A 60-Hour Break For Players

The excitement surrounding the English Premier League 2025/26 season has hit a high with the official season fixtures released.

The new season, which will commence on Saturday, August 16, 2025, is expected to keep fans on their toes until the final matches on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Considering the welfare of players, the EPL body has made a series of strategic adjustments to the holiday schedule.

A 60-hour rest break between rounds will be mandatory for the first time in history.

This first-of-its-kind move also relieves frequent concerns about the holiday jumble so players can perform to their full potential across the season.

As a further gesture to player welfare, the league also made the pre-Christmas day a non-match day. The move is expected to be embraced both by players and fans alike, with everyone feeling fully in the spirit of the holiday.

The EPL 2025/26 schedule is thoughtfully designed across 33 weekends and five-midweek rounds to provide a well-balanced and evenly distributed schedule.

Starting on August 16, the calendar includes a large recovery period of 83 days for players from the end of the 2024/25 season.

In addition, with the final day of the season set for May 24, 2026, the league has the advantage of wrapping up well before the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up window.

This gives players enough time to prepare for the biggest event in world football, the World Cup.

Such carefully considered actions demonstrate the Premier League’s commitment to preserving competitive football and protecting player welfare.

We are fans, and we cannot wait for another season of awesome football!
