Wimbledon: Carlos Alcaraz Ends Novak Djokovic’s Lengthy Reign At Wimbledon
Carlos Alcaraz signalled the end of Novak Djokovic’s lengthy reign at Wimbledon on Sunday, winning the All England Club championship for the first time with a shocking 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 triumph.
World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz ended Novak Djokovic’s hopes of a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam to claim his maiden Wimbledon title in a five-set epic, 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4.
The young Spaniard looked to be on his way to victory when he recovered from a nervous start to take a two-sets-to-one lead, only for Djokovic to show once again his remarkable powers of resilience.
It was he who appeared in the ascendancy at the start of the fifth set but back came 20-year-old Alcaraz to claim victory after four hours and 42 minutes, finally landing a meaningful blow for the young guns against the man 16 years his senior.
Alcaraz slumped to the court after Djokovic’s final forehand dropped into the net before sharing a long embrace with the vanquished Serb.

The excitement surrounding the English Premier League 2025/26 season has hit a high with the official season fixtures released.
The new season, which will commence on Saturday, August 16, 2025, is expected to keep fans on their toes until the final matches on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Considering the welfare of players, the EPL body has made a series of strategic adjustments to the holiday schedule.
A 60-hour rest break between rounds will be mandatory for the first time in history.
This first-of-its-kind move also relieves frequent concerns about the holiday jumble so players can perform to their full potential across the season.
As a further gesture to player welfare, the league also made the pre-Christmas day a non-match day. The move is expected to be embraced both by players and fans alike, with everyone feeling fully in the spirit of the holiday.
The EPL 2025/26 schedule is thoughtfully designed across 33 weekends and five-midweek rounds to provide a well-balanced and evenly distributed schedule.
Starting on August 16, the calendar includes a large recovery period of 83 days for players from the end of the 2024/25 season.
In addition, with the final day of the season set for May 24, 2026, the league has the advantage of wrapping up well before the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up window.
This gives players enough time to prepare for the biggest event in world football, the World Cup.
Such carefully considered actions demonstrate the Premier League’s commitment to preserving competitive football and protecting player welfare.
