Throughout her life, Cissy was a beacon of strength, faith, and family values. Her successful seven-decade career, rooted firmly in music and entertainment, will be remembered dearly by her family and fans alike.

Cissy began her music journey performing at church from a very tender age. She found fame as part of The Sweet Inspirations, a prominent backup singing group that included Doris Troy and Dee Dee Warwick. The group harmonised with soul icons like Otis Redding, Lou Rawls, and The Drifters, and even supported Dionne Warwick.

Cissy also contributed to Franklin’s “Think” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl,” and Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man.” Her memories with Presley were particularly fond, having shared the stage with him and even participated in gospel music sessions during rehearsals.

In the late ’60s, The Sweet Inspirations released four albums and had their own hit single, the soul-rock “Sweet Inspiration.” The group also sang for The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “Burning of the Midnight Lamp” in 1967 and performed with Presley in a Las Vegas show in 1969.

After parting ways with The Sweet Inspirations, Cissy embarked on a successful solo career. With her exceptional talent, she became a sought-after session singer and recorded more than 600 songs spanning multiple genres throughout her career.
