The Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has warned of potential subpoenas for major witnesses who failed to show up for the ongoing investigation of the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The court had earlier given the green light to serve additional witnesses through a national newspaper and social media platforms, following a request by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba. Among those summoned include Azeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, Samson Eletu, Sam Larry, and others.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the chief of the Aloba family’s legal counsel, Taiwo Odumosu, hinted that the court may issue a subpoena if the witnesses fail to appear at the upcoming hearing.

The court hearing has been postponed until September 30. However, Mohbad’s family expressed dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of their son’s death investigation.

According to Odumosu, the police relied heavily on eyewitness accounts instead of conducting an in-depth investigation to reach conclusions. He also spoke about police resistance towards cooperating with an independent autopsy and toxicology test despite receiving a court order to do so.

Odumosu expressed concern over the lack of response from the police regarding a request to view items collected from the crime scene, aiding in the forensic investigation.
