New Dates Set by FG for Reopening of Apongbon and Eko Bridges in Lagos
The Federal Government has set a new deadline of July 15 to finish repairs and reopen both the Eko and Apongbon bridges in Lagos State to traffic.
Mrs Olukorede Kesha, an official with the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, told Channels TV that some fundamental repairs needed to be completed before reopening to ensure the infrastructure’s endurance.
“We had an extensive meeting today, so we all agreed that we will open the two bridges finally mid-July. We are aware of the discomfort the motoring public is going through at the moment but they should just bear with the Federal Government. We are doing everything possible to ensure that the contractor finishes on or before July 15.”she said.
Apongbon Bridge was damaged by fire in March 2022, and plans to complete it by December were hampered by another fire on November 4 that damaged the Ijora Olopa part of Eko Bridge. The Apongbon Bridge delivery date has been pushed back to May 2023 because some materials for its repairs were required to begin the emergency repair of the Ijora Olopa segment.
The 4.1km Eko Bridge connects Lagos Island to the mainland and Apongbon on the island side. It had been undergoing progressive repair, but in February 2022, the contract for its total maintenance was given.

A short-statured Ghanaian woman has sparked online debate after making contentious remarks regarding her romantic relationship preferences.
During a recent interview with De God Son TV, the diminutive lady expressed her aversion to dating guys of shorter height despite her diminutive Ghanaian woman. She remarked that short men do not match her “specifications” for relationships.
When questioned about her explanation, she stated that she sees shorter men as resembling infants, even though they are adults.
“I have a 7-year-old son, so dating a short man feels like dating my son,” she explained, finding parallels between her personal and romantic lives.
