A Nigerian woman who bites off 18-year-old neighbour’s tongue while having a fight over a bucket nabbed.

A woman, simply identified as Fatima, has been arrested for biting off the tongue of her 18-year-old neighbour, Mitsura, in the Igando area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Aribisala Street on Thursday, October 31, as the pair was doing laundry in the compound where they live.

In a report by Punch: ‘Trouble started when Fatima, in her early 30s, reported Mitsura for using her bucket without first getting her permission.’

This is said to have turned into an argument, which ended in a fight between the two.

In the midst of this scuffle, Fatima purportedly throttled Mitsura and bit her protruding tongue in two.

Speaking to the publication after Thursday’s incident, the landlady, who identified herself only as Mama Ibadan, said she had earlier quelled a fight between them.

‘They were both washing when others came to tell me they were fighting over the bucket. I went down there and stopped the fight. I also went to beg them.’ She paused. ‘After I left, the others started to shout that someone’s tongue had been cut off. When I arrived, I saw Mitsura’s mouth all bloody. That’s how I found out that Fatima had bitten off her tongue.’

Mitsura, 18, was rushed to the hospital to be treated. She was later reported to have been rejected by three private hospitals before she was admitted to the Igando General Hospital.

‘We rushed her to a hospital nearby, but they refused to admit her. We tried two other hospitals before we finally took her to the general hospital. Fatima’s husband, who was called and briefed about what happened, had also rushed to the hospital.’ A neighbor who simply gave her name as Funke.

Another neighbor, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case, said: ‘She is a girl who was orphaned, who came to live with us not long ago when her friends who live up there rented one of the apartments in the building.’

‘She had lost her parents. So she moved in with her girlfriends, who rented this apartment because she could not find a place to live. The girlfriends were not around when the assault happened. But they heard what happened and immediately came home as quickly as they could. They brought her to the hospital and went to the police station to file the report.’

It appears that Fatima later tried to escape but was caught by some inhabitants and handed over to the police for prosecution.
