With his goal against RB Leipzig, Erling Haaland became the first player in Champions League history to reach 40 goals in the European competition.

The Norwegian and Manchester City Super-striker scored in their 1-1 draw at home against Liverpool on Saturday to become the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League goals in just 48 games.

The striker did not hesitate to break another record as City fell behind Leipzig upon his return to continental competition.

In his 35th competitive appearance, Haaland’s strike against the German team was his 40th Champions League goal overall.

At 23 years and 130 days, he is currently the youngest player to reach such a milestone and the fastest athlete to do it as well.

In addition, it was Haaland’s 12th goal in 8 games versus Leipzig, the most he has ever scored against one team.

With two goals conceded in the first half, City would have been relieved to see him score at last.

Lois Openda startled the Etihad Stadium by scoring twice while taking advantage of the defense of the defending champions.

Haaland responded early in the second half, and City is still seeking a victory to keep their perfect record in Group G.

Leipzig could not hold on to their lead as England international Phil Foden slotted calmly into the corner to make it 2-2.

Fabio Carvalho, a player on loan from Liverpool, believed he had given the visitors the lead again, but his goal was disallowed for offside.

But when Julian Alvarez located the target inside the area just before full time, City increased their lead to 3-2.

JUST IN: EPL Releases 2025/26 Season Dates, Adjusts To A 60-Hour Break For Players

The excitement surrounding the English Premier League 2025/26 season has hit a high with the official season fixtures released.

The new season, which will commence on Saturday, August 16, 2025, is expected to keep fans on their toes until the final matches on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Considering the welfare of players, the EPL body has made a series of strategic adjustments to the holiday schedule.

A 60-hour rest break between rounds will be mandatory for the first time in history.

This first-of-its-kind move also relieves frequent concerns about the holiday jumble so players can perform to their full potential across the season.

As a further gesture to player welfare, the league also made the pre-Christmas day a non-match day. The move is expected to be embraced both by players and fans alike, with everyone feeling fully in the spirit of the holiday.

The EPL 2025/26 schedule is thoughtfully designed across 33 weekends and five-midweek rounds to provide a well-balanced and evenly distributed schedule.

Starting on August 16, the calendar includes a large recovery period of 83 days for players from the end of the 2024/25 season.

In addition, with the final day of the season set for May 24, 2026, the league has the advantage of wrapping up well before the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up window.

This gives players enough time to prepare for the biggest event in world football, the World Cup.

Such carefully considered actions demonstrate the Premier League’s commitment to preserving competitive football and protecting player welfare.

We are fans, and we cannot wait for another season of awesome football!
