48 Nurses And Midwives Trained In Nigeria Under Investigation In The UK Over Alleged Exam Fraud

The nurses and midwives allegedly paid to take computer-based exams that assess their medical knowledge and are required to practice in Britain, according to the article.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) received a report of anything “anomalous,” and the investigation was then started.

According to their findings, there was “widespread fraudulent activity” at the Yunnik Technologies Test Centre in Ibadan, southwest Nigeria.

The NMC found that the center’s test findings were completely invalid.

The NMC stated that an impartial panel will evaluate these people’s cases to determine whether or not they actually committed fraud.

Additionally, if the panel finds that they did, they will be struck from the register and lose their ability to practice as nurses or midwives in the UK.

The suspects would continue to be permitted to work in the UK during this procedure, the article added.

A CONFUSING MOMENT FOR APPLICANTS

Some experts are concerned about this and contend that the NMC should suspend the nurses and midwives until their cases are settled.

Andrea Sutcliffe, CEO of NMC, spoke on the finding and expressed pity for the honest candidates who were implicated in the incident.

The NMC’s top goal, she continued, is still public safety.

“We understand this continues to be a distressing time for people facing uncertainty about their application or place on our register,” she added.

“We’re committed to handling these issues most responsibly and ethically possible.

Before deciding on the best and most appropriate course of action for everyone, it was crucial to thoroughly consider all the facts and other information that were presented to us.

“Our top priority continues to be to safeguard the public by preserving the credibility of the register for nursing and midwifery professionals active in the UK.”

Additional 669 nurses and midwives who are applying to work in the UK but have not yet begun employment, according to the report, “are also believed to have obtained their results fraudulently.”

These people, according to the NMC, will have to take fresh exams and get a clean bill of health.

It also stated that an additional 771 Nigerian applicants who had been cleared of fraud and dishonesty would need to retake the exams because all of the results from the centre had been ruled fraudulent.

Bisi further added that an average man expects to follow a predefined path of growth, which includes teenage years through university level, to get a degree and a job.

He noted that he couldn’t follow the predefined path of growth, which was why he came out to declare his sexual orientation.
