Foreign Names On CAC Certificate Of Company Indicted For Ibadan Explosion- Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed that the mining company indicted for the Ibadan explosion on Tuesday, January 16, is registered with foreign names on their Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificate.

Makinde, who made this revelation during an interview with Channels TV, said that the death toll as a result of this unfortunate explosion had risen to three as another victim passed away in a hospital on Wednesday, January 17.

The governor added;

“We recovered one individual alive today (Wednesday) under the rubble. 60 of the 77 people hospitalised have been discharged.

We are trying to uncover the identities of the people. We’ve done a few fact-finding on the company involved and yes, there are indeed some foreign names on the CAC documents of the company involved but these are still early days. We don’t have anything to cover.”

However, Makinde noted that one person of interest has been arrested for questioning and investigation.

Mr Governor further clarified that ; “It is not anything that has to do with banditry and insurgency but illegal miners that stored explosives in a residential area.”

And sequel to the claims that the state government was trying to cover- up the truth about the main cause and total number of casualties, Makinde noted that the state government has no reason to cover-up and that the people of state should trust his administration.

Additionally, Makinde assures the people that he would seek presidential approval for miners to store explosives with the military, and would sign an executive order in the coming days to that effect.
