Nationwide Blackout As Nigeria’s Electricity Grid Collapses Again

Nigeria has been plunged into darkness once more as the national grid system managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) from Osogbo, Osun State, failed.

The Guardian discovered in the early hours of today that the system has collapsed to a pitiful 273 megawatts of electricity coming from two of the approximately 27 electricity producing plants.

This comes just a week after TCN blasted the drum to commemorate a dubious 400 days of grid stability.

A number of Distribution Companies verified to The Guardian that the grid fell down at 00:41 AM, and that the majority of their feeders are offline.

Five generating plants were operational as of 4:00 a.m. on Thursday. Afam VI had 0.70MW, Dadinkowa had 0.00MW, Ibom Power had 32.90MW, Jebba had 240MW, and Olorunsogo had zero generation.

At 1 a.m., the total power on the system was 35MW, suggesting that the country had completely collapsed.

The grid dropped to 193MW about 3 a.m. before rising to 273MW when this report was filed.

The TCN has not responded to our correspondent’s enquiries concerning the development.

Once again, Nigerian singer Davido has made headlines for proving his status as a rich man with two luxury cars entering Nigeria: a Rolls-Royce and a Tesla Cybertruck.

Another photo depicted the Tesla Cybertruck being loaded into an aircraft to verify the truck’s arrival in Nigeria.

Cubana Chief Priest, another close associate and entrepreneur, also saluted the new cars with an Instagram image. He congratulated Davido on his feats, dubbed him the “GOAT,” and hinted at a festive December with new vehicles added to the singer’s collection.
