Atiku Would Have Been Rejected By Nigerians If He Had Won In The 2023 Presidential Polls- Bode George
Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, expressed reservations about the potential impact of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s presidency in 2023 on Nigeria’s stability.

Speaking on Arise Television, Bode George highlighted concerns that Atiku’s candidacy for the PDP’s presidential position in the 2023 election could have led to instability due to his ethnicity.

He emphasized that a majority of Nigerians favored a power shift to the south following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure.

George pointed out that Atiku’s selection as the party’s presidential candidate, especially with the PDP’s national chairman Iyorchia Ayu also hailing from the north, caused significant divisions within the party.
He criticized the manipulation of the process to favour Atiku, leading to internal discord and factions within the PDP.
Regarding the potential aftermath of an Atiku presidency in 2023, George expressed doubt about the country’s stability under such leadership.
He believed that Atiku’s presidency would not have been well-received due to the traditional expectation of power rotation between north and south in Nigeria.
George also commented on the current state of the PDP, highlighting internal strife with three factions vying for control. He cast doubt on the party’s ability to address its challenges and critiqued its moral authority to criticize the actions of the current government.
Lastly, George declined an appointment to the Disciplinary Committee established to address party members accused of undermining the PDP in the 2023 elections.
He cited differences in party hierarchy and experience as reasons for not serving under Chief Tom Ikimi, the committee’s chairman. George emphasized his familiarity with the party’s culture and seniority within its ranks as reasons for his decision.
