Beckham, appointed as captain by Eriksson, described the former manager as a “true gentleman” and expressed his never-ending gratitude towards him. Eriksson, an instrumental character in England’s football scene, passed away recently at 76.

Notably, Eriksson was the first manager outside Britain to lead England’s team, and Beckham was a crucial part of his tenure. Of the 59 games where Beckham was captain, Eriksson was the manager for all but two.

Remembering Eriksson, Beckham reminisced about their last meeting earlier this year, remarking, “We laughed, we cried, and we knew we were saying goodbye. I will forever hold these last memories of this day with you and your family. Thank you, Sven.”

During his five-year stint as England’s manager from 2001 to 2006, Eriksson guided England to the quarter-finals of three major tournaments. Besides England, he managed a dozen clubs, like Manchester City, Leicester, Roma and Lazio, bringing home 18 trophies.

Wayne Rooney, who debuted for England under Eriksson’s management at 17, described him as a “special man.” Several other players from Eriksson’s ‘Golden Generation,’ including Peter Crouch, John Terry, and Frank Lampard, voiced their tributes, expressing gratitude and remembrance for the man who shaped their careers.

Kasper Schmeichel, who debuted in the Premier League under Eriksson at Manchester City, expressed profound gratitude towards Eriksson, stating, “Sven was the first manager to truly believe in me and give me a chance at the highest level. He was the first manager to call me world-class and made me feel 10 feet tall.”

As tributes continue to pour in worldwide, Eriksson’s significant contribution to football is evident.

EPL Releases 2025/26 Season Date

The excitement surrounding the English Premier League 2025/26 season has hit a high with the official season fixtures released.

The new season, which will commence on Saturday, August 16, 2025, is expected to keep fans on their toes until the final matches on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Considering the welfare of players, the EPL body has made a series of strategic adjustments to the holiday schedule.

A 60-hour rest break between rounds will be mandatory for the first time in history.

This first-of-its-kind move also relieves frequent concerns about the holiday jumble so players can perform to their full potential across the season.

As a further gesture to player welfare, the league also made the pre-Christmas day a non-match day. The move is expected to be embraced both by players and fans alike, with everyone feeling fully in the spirit of the holiday.

The EPL 2025/26 schedule is thoughtfully designed across 33 weekends and five-midweek rounds to provide a well-balanced and evenly distributed schedule.

Starting on August 16, the calendar includes a large recovery period of 83 days for players from the end of the 2024/25 season.

In addition, with the final day of the season set for May 24, 2026, the league has the advantage of wrapping up well before the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up window.

This gives players enough time to prepare for the biggest event in world football, the World Cup.

Such carefully considered actions demonstrate the Premier League’s commitment to preserving competitive football and protecting player welfare.

We are fans, and we cannot wait for another season of awesome football!
