Sources say that US President-elect Donald Trump will appoint Florida Senator Marco Rubio as US Secretary of State.

Rubio, who focuses on foreign policy, is known for being a champion of national security and could increase Trump’s global influence.

Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants and an outspoken critic of the Iranian and Chinese governments, is the ranking Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, the Daily Mail reported.

Although he challenged Trump in the 2016 presidential election, the two now have a united front, with Rubio supporting Trump’s most recent campaigning efforts.

This move demonstrates Trump’s drive to quickly resolve the Ukraine crisis and combat ongoing chaos in the Middle East where Israel, Hamas and Iran remain at odds and China continues to act against US interests.

The remarks followed Sen. Bill Hagerty’s congratulation on Rubio and his ability to spearhead Trump’s “America First” foreign policy.

“My friend, congratulations on your nomination as Secretary of State! “I know that he is ready to implement President Trump’s America First, peace-through-strength agenda across the globe,” Hagerty wrote.

Rubio’s election comes at a time where Trump is crafting his next administration, which represents immigration- and national-security extremism.

Notably, among those appointments are Stephen Miller, who conceived Trump’s original immigration plan and will serve as deputy chief of staff for policy, and Tom Homan, who will direct Trump’s colossal border security plan.

Trump also appointed Rep. Elise Stefanik to serve as US ambassador to the United Nations and Rep Michael Waltz to be National Security Advisor.

Waltz, who has been vocal about reducing the United States’ dependence on China, will not be confirmed by the Senate because Trump likes to break appointments.

Rubio will be the longest-serving Hispanic official in US history and replace former Secretary of state Mike Pompeo, who, like Nikki Haley, was not allowed into Trump’s new administration.
