In a horrifying case of domestic violence, an aluminum worker named Lawrence Uzor stands accused of assaulting his wife in an alleged ritual act, leaving her in a grizzly state. This shocking incident occurred at the Adiele Estate in Umueze Ibeku, Abia State.

Lawrence, a local from Umuchieze in Bende Local Government Area, reportedly used a knife to gouge his wife’s eyes out while she was asleep. Additionally, he assaulted his landlady, Madam Lovejane Nwaiwu, knocking out several of her teeth and slicing off her upper lip.

Narrating her ordeal, Madam Nwaiwu said she heard noises from the couple’s apartment and went to check. She was met with a horrifying sight of the husband pinning down his wife with a knife in hand. In her attempts to alert the neighbors, she was attacked by Lawrence, leaving her severely injured.

Abia State’s First Lady, Mrs Priscilla Otti, upon learning about the incident, expressed deep sadness, particularly as this comes shortly after signing an agreement with the UNFPA concerning gender-based violence. She committed to taking immediate action for the victim’s well-being and protection and assured the state government would tackle such cases head-on.

The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Prof. Azubuike Onyebuchi, represented by his Director of Medical Services, Mrs Aisha Onyemaobi, confirmed that the victim was in recovery and the suspect was in police custody.

Meanwhile, the victim’s relatives, Ijeoma Okpokiri and Chioma Okpokiri, have appealed to the Inspector General of Police and Government at various levels, including the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to intervene in the matter and assist their sister in her recovery.
